City of Sugar Land

An SLPD public safety initiative

* Citations for violations began Dec. 6, 2007

Each year, red light runners cause as many as 218,000 traffic collisions in the United States.

SLPD’s implementation of red light cameras for traffic enforcement has the potential to yield a 25 percent reduction in accidents. Cameras are expected to be installed at targeted intersections in the City by the end of the summer.

“Our research into this program is intended to find ways to make Sugar Land safer but also improve mobility,” said Police Chief Steve Griffith. “By reducing accidents, we’re saving lives and ensuring a smooth flow of traffic through our City.”
