New Mobile Command Center to Keep Sugar Land Safe

Sugar Land, Texas – Sugar Land City Council recently approved $319,799 for the purchase of a mobile command center.

The vehicle’s custom design will meet the needs of public safety response in Sugar Land.  Potential uses could include fires, SWAT scenes, major accidents, chemical spills, train derailments and more.

Construction of the vehicle is expected to take about 10 months.

The 40-foot vehicle will be utilized by police, emergency management and fire-EMS and will include support for state-of-the-art command and control technology and work space at remote locations throughout Sugar Land.  It will serve as a communications center, allowing key decision-makers to coordinate activities and tactical resources in and around critical incidents such as natural and manmade disasters.

The vehicle will also support the operation of large-scale events such Tree Lighting, New Year’s Eve and activities at the City’s new Festival Site near the Brazos River.

“This asset directly supports our citywide goal to remain one of the safest cities in the country,” said Assistant Fire-EMS Chief Mario Partida.  “It is a key resource in maintaining situational awareness and ensuring the swift, efficient deployment of resources to protect our citizens.”

Sugar Land’s current mobile command vehicle has been in service since 2000. Aging technology and mechanical issues prompted the need to identify a replacement, one that addresses the future needs of the community.
