Sugar Land, TX – The city of Sugar Land will launch a new online water bill payment system in September.
The Office of Treasury and the Information Technology Department identified Paymentus after months of research to find a tool that meets the needs of the city and its customers.
Paymentus has a level one compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). The PCI Standard is mandated by credit card brands but administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud.
Paymentus processes more than six million transactions per year and has a robust monitoring and compliance plan.
“Our transition to Paymentus is another step forward in the city’s commitment to managing resources in a responsible and efficient manner,” said Assistant City Manager Chris Steubing. “It ensures that residents have a more accessible, easy and secure way to continue paying their bills online.”
Current customers who use the city’s automatic credit card payment system will need to set up a new account at www.sugarlandtx.gov/newwaytopay. No new actions will be required for customers who make one-time payments, pay in person or by phone, use automatic bank drafts, mail payments or use the city’s drop box.
