Citizen's Police Academy

Applications for the Citizen's Police Academy #60 are now available. Applications will be accepted until July 1, 2017.
They are on the front lines of public safety, preventing and investigating crime, protecting and aiding citizens, and ready to put their lives at risk for people they’ve never met. They are the Sugar Land Police Department, and now you have the opportunity to take an inside look at the department, a remarkable organization of people and technology.

The 60th session of Sugar Land Citizens' Police Academy will begin in August of 2017.

The class will meet every Thursday for 10 weeks from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m., with 2 classes being held on Saturdays at the Sugar Land Police Department. Students are introduced to all aspects of law enforcement, including:

  • Police Department Structure
  • Criminal Scene Investigations (CSI: Sugar Land)
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Traffic Laws and Traffic Stops
  • Active Shooter Situation Response

In order to be considered for the academy, an applicant must:
 
  • Be a current resident of Sugar Land, the extra territorial jurisdiction (Greatwood and New Territory), or have an employment address within the incorporated city limits of Sugar Land.
  • Submit a completed application
  • Provide a copy of their drivers license
  • Provide a copy of valid automobile liability insurance (upon admission to class)
  • Have no criminal history containing a class B misdemeanor or above in the previous 5 years from the date of application
  • Have no felony convictions regardless of time period
This class is offered free of charge.

Applications Now Available


Applications are submitted through the city's volunteer office. The application review process usually takes 6-8 weeks, before those that are selected are contacted. For any questions, call the volunteer office at 281-275-2329 or email volunteer@sugarlandtx.gov.
Applications will be accepted until July 1st.

 For new applicants (non-registered volunteers)
  • Go to volunteer.sugarlandtx.gov
  • Click on the "Get Involved" link at the top and select the "New Volunteer" option that matches your age
  • Fill out the new volunteer application and submit
  • Upon registration, the “Citizens Police Academy Application- new volunteer” option will be available from the “Get Involved” menu
  • Fill out that application and submit
For existing Serve Sugar Land Volunteers
  • Go to volunteer.sugarlandtx.gov and login
  • Click on the “Get Involved” link at the top and select the “Citizens Police Academy Application - existing volunteer” option
  • Fill out the application and submit
