I provide legal support to City departments, which includes things like drafting contracts and providing legal opinions. I also assist with open records requests and provide support as needed to the City's various boards and commissions.
You started off as an intern for the City of Sugar Land. Which department did you intern for?
I interned for the City Attorney's Office in Summer 2013.
What attracted you to join the City of Sugar Land's team?
The wonderful staff and the opportunity to serve the Sugar Land community, albeit in a very behind the scenes, indirect way.
When/how did you move into a full-time position?
I was hired as a Law Clerk in January 2014 and was promoted to Assistant City Attorney when I passed the Texas Bar Exam in November 2015.
How did your internship experience prepare you for the transition to a full-time role?
I was able to get a comprehensive idea of the work involved in my department, and the expectations of the organization as a whole.
What is your favorite part of the job?
When the legal solution to an issue is one that also meets my client's goals.
What advice would you give to future City of Sugar Land interns?
